FAQ: Leadership Competencies Inventory

 
What will this survey tell me about myself?

You'll be scored on the ten most-evaluated areas of leadership: leadership ethos, leadership passion, work ethic, strategic mind, communication skills, quality subordinates, emotional maturity, entrepreneurial instincts, functional skills, and delivery of results. Your report will point out specific leadership competencies that should be further developed.
 

How much is it, and how long will it take?

Similar tools can be cost prohibitive. Church Central's assessment is free and will take at most about ten minutes. There are 30 questions with clickable answers.
 

How fast do I get my results back?

You'll be scored by our automated system, so your report will be almost instantaneous. You can print out the report or e-mail it to others.
 

Can I have other people evaluate me with this tool?

Absolutely. While it's not required, we highly recommend that you ask at least two other people who will provide objective feedback on you. They'll be answering the inventory to evaluate your leadership characteristics. Encourage them to give an honest assessment of your competencies.
 

Who should take this inventory?

This is an excellent evaluation tool for both current or prospective staff and employees. Anyone in a leadership position (or anticipating such a position) will benefit from the results.
 

How did you develop the survey?

For about two years we studied the top leadership surveys on the market and identified the top ten areas of assessment that were common among the various tools. We've combined these "best practice" evaluative areas into a single tool that has since been tested by hundreds of leaders and prospective leaders.
 

What should I do with the results?

We recommend that you find your two highest and two lowest scores and work on these competencies over the next year. Also, compare your scores to others who assessed you to see if there's a difference between your self-perception and how others perceive you. Then take the inventory again in six to twelve months to check your progress.
 

How is the Leadership Competencies Inventory different from other leadership assessment tools?

Dr. Thom Rainer developed the Leadership Competencies Inventory after working with hundreds of church leaders and seeing, first hand, which characteristics and traits separate truly successful leaders from the mediocre ones. This particular inventory is different in three simple ways:

- Highly focused. In 30 questions, The Leadership Competencies Inventory assesses the ten areas found to be most relevant and predictive of a leader's success at a given point in time. Other leadership surveys, which have 100 or more questions, may measure the same areas, but in a longer, more cumbersome manner.
- Easy to have superiors, coworkers and/or subordinates assess an individual where 360° feedback is important. After the person being assessed takes his/her own inventory, other people can be invited into the assessment by filling in the online "Invitation Form".
