In this issue, Dr. Thom Rainer wraps up his look at the pastors of good-to-great churches. It's not surprising that great churches are led by pastors with long-term commitments to their churches. What may come as a surprise, however, is how few pastors stick around long enough to reap the benefits of their hard work.
There's a reason so many church leaders leave for other ministry opportunities. Dr. Rainer's article points out a significant cause of these early departures and suggests that churches with many "revolving door" pastors cannot attain health.
The same is true in business, of course. Companies with changing leadership that undergo constant stress and reorganization find it hard to stay focused on their core because they have to deal with upheaval every day. Keeping your job takes the place of doing your job.
Are you focused on the vision God has for your church or ministry? Or are you consumed with change, conflict, and uncertainty? Pray that God will give you supernatural results for your efforts, and that you will have the time to focus on the calling behind your work.
After reading Dr. Rainer's article, check out some of the other reading suggestions we have for you. We've chosen books and feature articles we think will give leaders a lift when it seems the tasks of ministry are overwhelming.
God's blessings on your ministry!
