JACKSONVILLE, Ore. -- The Oregon Court of Appeals struck down attempts to block a church from expanding, according to The Associate Press.

Friends of Jacksonville asked the court to rule against a city conditional use permit allowing First Presbyterian Church to build an 18,163-square-foot building. Church officials maintain the building is needed because the church outgrew its present location, a 120-year-old historic building downtown.

Friends of Jacksonville expressed concerns about access, traffic and noise and argued expansion in a residential neighborhood does not fit the city's comprehensive plan.
