WILMINGTON, N.C. -- First Baptist Church has expressed interest in buying the New Hanover County jail and Sheriff's Department headquarters once the law enforcement center is relocated, according to a news report on WECT-TV.

The jail will be moved to a new facility later this year, leaving much of the law enforcement center vacant. County commissioners voted to sell the facility rather than remodel it. The Sheriff's Department will have to move if the property is sold.

The Rev. Mike Queen said he would like to use the property for an urban ministry center, the station reported. The congregation would have to vote on buying the $6 million property, which is adjacent to the church.
