LIBERTY TOWNSHIP, Ohio -- Opposition from neighboring residents has forced Lakota Christian Church to revise some of its expansion plans.

According to The Cincinnati Enquirer, neighbors of nearby Woodmoor Terrace subdivision are concerned about how the 27,000-square-foot expansion will affect them.

The church plan is to expand north, closer to the subdivision, instead of east into part of the church parking lot and an open area. Steve Hall, treasurer of the Woodmoor Terrace Homeowners Association, said the church has refused to guarantee the expanded facility will not be used as a school or day care center. Homeowners believe either could harm property values, the paper reported.

The church will seek a conditional use permit from the township's board of zoning appeals May 13. The board rejected the original expansion plan Jan 14.

Since then, church officials have met on several occasions with neighbors in the abutting subdivision to discuss the planned expansion, the newspaper reported.

"We were made aware of numerous things the neighbors wanted addressed," said Barry Shelley, chairman of the church elders. "We tried to see everything from their perspective, and we tried to respond to all of their concerns."

Hall disagrees.

"What they've done so far is put a shade around a light and cut down a dead tree," he told the newspaper. "They talk a real good game, but when it comes down to action, they're very light on action."

The newspaper did not detail revisions.
