FRANKFORT, Ind. -- A church plans to more than triple its size by renovating a vacant Wal-Mart store it purchased from the retail giant for $2.75 million, according to news reports.
The Associated Press reported Faith Family Ministries plans to first sell a strip mall adjoining the 70,000-square-foot Wal-Mart store. The Rev. Wayne Martin said the church will build an auditorium and a children's ministry once the sale to an undisclosed buyer is completed. No details of the strip mall sale were given.
The (Frankfort) Times reported the church has negotiated purchasing Clinton County Plaza since December 2002, a month after Wal-Mart moved from the retail center.
Martin said he expects attendance to increase from 800 to about 1,500. The church will sell the 22,000-square-foot building it currently holds services in. No potential buyer was identified.
