LONGMONT, Colo. -- County planners voted 8-1 in favor of a zoning change that would permit a church to develop a 313-acre complex of housing, church buildings, a commercial center and parking, The Associated Press reported.
The Weld County Planning Commission will send its recommendation to county commissioners, despite objections from neighbors.
LifeBridge Christian Church wants to build the complex on farmland about five miles east of the city. Commissioners are expected to meet May 7 to discuss the proposed development, AP reported.
The Greeley Tribune reported that the church plans to fund the project through member donations, leasing space to organizations such as Aims Community College and by selling single-family homes and senior housing for profit.
Neither report indicated a cost estimate of the development.
