NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Nichole Nordeman and Michael W. Smith were the big winners at the 34th Annual Dove Awards, nabbing vocalist of the year awards in their respective categories, Baptist Press reported.
Aside from being named top female vocalist, Nordeman also was named Songwriter of the Year. Her song, "Holy" was named Song of the Year and Pop/Contemporary Recorded Song of the Year. She had eight nominations in six categories and took home seven awards.
Smith was named top male vocalist and Artist of the Year, bringing his total of Dove awards to 40. He has won at least one Dove Award a year since 1989.
Third Day was named Group of the Year honors for the third consecutive year. Audio Adrenaline, MercyMe, Selah and Sixpence None the Richer were nominated for top group honors.
Among the other awards, Paul Colman Trio was named New Artist of the Year.
The Dove Awards will air at 8 p.m. April 19 on Pax television network, according to the report.
