VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Top-ranking Christian rock bands Audio Adrenaline and MercyMe are leading a charge for missions, according to a report by the Baptist Press.
Their 48-city "Go Show" tour challenges concertgoers to heed the call to missions.
After a recent concert at Tidewater Community College in Norfolk, Va., more than 30 concert attendees committed to go on a mission project within the next 18 months. More than 3,000 have made similar commitments since the tour began in February. Organizers anticipate they will surpass their goal of 5,000 by tour's end, May 3.
The two well-known, missions-minded acts are joined by up-and-coming groups Kutless and The Swift. The groups deliver music and an urgent plea for reaching the world for Christ as a recipe for missions mobilization.
"We're trying to empower the body of Christ to change the world," Bart Millard, front man for MercyMe, told the news service.
"It's a serious commitment," added tour chaplain Joel Bench. "We tell them that once they make that commitment, ‘We're gonna bug you until you go.'"
Missions commitments go to The Go Foundation, a joint effort of Audio Adrenaline and Mercy Me that helps connect people with organizations like the International Mission Board.
In addition to the IMB, the eight other organizations are Iwitness Ministries, International Commission, Awestar Ministries, Spoken For Ministries, Student Evangelism with the North American Mission Board, East West Ministries International, International Sports Federation and G.O. Ministries Inc., according to the report.
