LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Presbyterian Church (USA) is stepping up its efforts to attract worshipers from a variety of racial and ethnic backgrounds, according to the Presbyterian News Service.
Organizers will offer six hours of community-building workshops at the fourth annual Multicultural Conference, April 24-27, in Seattle. Previous conferences devoted two hours to such workshops.
"This year's conference focuses more on how to do multicultural ministry in the Presbyterian Church (USA)," said the Rev. Raafat Girgis, a conference planner and associate for the Office of Evangelism, Racial and Cultural Diversity.
The workshops will explore how church leaders can create better relationships among different groups, attract racial and ethnic members and confront stereotyping, discrimination and racism.
Organizers expect more than 200 people to attend. Last year, about 180 attended the conference in Detroit.
