VALLEY CENTER, Calif. -- Valley Center Community Church has unveiled plans for an ambitious expansion project.
According to the Valley Roadrunner, the project will, when complete, have four buildings, including a main sanctuary designed to seat 1,200 people, a multipurpose room, and two wings dedicated to junior and senior high school students. The church also will build new administrative offices and a 360-car parking lot.
The entire facility, which will be built on 20 acres, will encompass 53,000 square feet.
The first phase of expansion will include a temporary sanctuary seating 400. The building will have two wings for children's church and the nursery.
In the second phase, when its permanent sanctuary is complete, the first-phase building will be dedicated to the youth ministry.
Phase three will be a permanent youth building, and phase four will include the administrative offices.
The timing of the phases will be determined by the funding, which is being raised largely from member pledges, along with some minimal borrowing. The anticipated price tag is $8 million to $10 million.
VCC's present sanctuary, which seats 220, was a military chapel salvaged from the naval training center at Camp Elliott in San Diego. To accommodate the growing congregation, the church holds three Sunday services; fourth service may be necessary before the new building is erected.
