KEESEVILLE, N.Y. -- Police accused a man of stealing about $100,000 from a Baptist Church while he served as treasurer.

According to the Plattsburgh Republican, Lewis Demar, 46, of Cadyville, was charged March 6 with grand larceny and falsifying business records, both felonies.

Officials at Keeseville Independent Baptist Church discovered the theft while reviewing a discrepancy in accounting records. State Police believe he took "anywhere from $95,000 to over $100,000" between 1998 and 2002, said investigator Pat Miner.

Demar was arraigned in Beekmantown and posted $10,000 bond Monday night in Plattsburgh Town Court.
