NORMAN, Okla. -- Great Life Church has acquired an indoor soccer complex it will renovate to become its new home.
According to The Oklahoman, Great Life pastor Robert Custer said the congregation hopes to move by mid-April from its present location, a former auction building.
The foreclosed soccer complex was purchased for $750,000, and contains 34,400 square feet on five acres of land.
The interior is completely open with an indoor soccer arena and two basketball courts. The church will remove the arena and erect interior walls to divide the space for a new worship auditorium, Starbucks-style cafe, education classrooms and ministry offices, Custer said.
The basketball courts will remain and be used for league play, community events and the congregation's after-school programs. Custer said one of the basketball courts will be used as a "gymatorium" to create an environment for the children's ministry.
The congregation initially planned to buy the building it was leasing for its church home, but it decided it needed more space for its expanding ministries.
Great Life Church was organized Jan. 14, 2001, and has about 400 regular attendees.
