ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. -- A Kentucky man was arrested Feb. 21 after being caught using a stolen credit card to purchase some Bible studies from a Christian bookstore.
According to the Associated Press, Cecil T. Turner, 50, of Louisville, is accused of stealing money and one credit card from at least three churches.
Turner pleaded innocent on Feb. 24 to the charges stemming from the allegations.
Police got onto Turner's trail when an employee at one of the churches, Grace Heartland, reported a credit card missing from her purse. She notified the card's issuer, who told police the card had just been used at the Lifeway Christian Bookstore in Elizabethtown.
A manager at the bookstore called police, and Turner was arrested about 15 minutes later for fraudulent use of a credit card and three counts of third-degree burglary. He was also cited for driving on a suspended license.
"He bought 10 copies of a Bible study called 'Making Peace With Your Past' and a follow-up study called 'Moving Beyond Your Past,' " bookstore manager Jonathan Gallegly said.
The books allegedly purchased by Turner were found in the car along with a receipt that matched the stolen credit card. The missing money and the card were found in Turner's pockets, a police spokesperson said.
