EVANSTON, Ill. -- In an effort to make giving to the local church easier, the United Methodist Church is accepting contributions through electronic funds transfers, according to the United Methodist News Service.
Through the Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) program, churchgoers can contribute to their local congregations by an authorized, recurring financial transfer from their checking or savings accounts to the church account. The program is sponsored and was tested by the denomination's financial agency, the General Council on Finance and Administration.
The service will make it easier for United Methodists to honor their pledges and should reduce the fluctuation churches see in contributions during the year, according to the report.
All UMC congregations can participate, and there is no initial set-up fee. More information is available on the council's Web site.
