OKLAHOMA CITY -- Plagiarism allegations have prompted an Oklahoma City pastor to scrap his book condemning Islam, according to The Oklahoman.
Brian Waite told the newspaper he would destroy any remaining copies of "Islam Uncovered" after admitting that "significant information" in the 178-page book was not properly attributed. Waite also acknowledged falsely claiming endorsements from nationally syndicated columnist Cal Thomas and evangelist Franklin Graham, which appear on the book's back cover.
Waite, pastor of 3,600-member Quail Springs Baptist Church, said he thought Thomas and Graham had approved the endorsements. He has since made apologies to each.
About half of the 2,000 copies of "Islam Uncovered" in print have sold for $16.95 each. Waite said he won't receive any compensation and will not try to publish a corrected version.
