SAN ANTONIO -- Faith Bible Church Pastor Lee Patton doesn't just preach a sermon, he draws it.
According to The San Antonio Express, at least one Sunday a month Patton gives what he calls a "chalk talk," where he draws a colorful picture that illustrates his message.
He's been offering these unique sermons at the small, nondenominational church for about 10 years. The congregation consists of about 60 families.
"People relate to the message when they see a photo," Patton said. "It keeps people's attention."
While Patton delivered his sermon, he added details to a partially finished illustration prepared in advance.
"Alone in the Christian life we are destined to fail," he said. "God wants you connected to a group, not alone."
To the picture's vibrant blue waters, he added black reeds; in the puffy white and pink clouds, he sketched a flock of geese flying in formation.
Near the end of the lesson, the lights were turned down to reveal a message hidden in the clouds of the drawing.
The words, "Alone we can do so little. Together we can do so much," glowed brightly from the artwork.
Patton uses a special white chalk that's visible in black light. He usually has a hidden element in his art, which he always reveals.
Sunday school teacher Sharon Sauceda, a member for more than 10 years, loves the drawings.
"I'm excited that he does all that, because it attracts other people," she said. "He's really good at it."
