WASHINGTON -- Focus on the Family founder Dr. James Dobson is urging parents to pull their kids out of California's public schools, which he claims promote a homosexual agenda.
"In the state of California ââ¬Â¦ if I had a child there, I wouldn't put that youngster in a public school," Dobson told his radio audience March 28.
"I've been very careful not to be negative to the public schools because there are many Christian teachers that are struggling mightily to do what's right," Dobson said. "But ââ¬Â¦ in every classroom in the state, for 13 public school years, they're being taught homosexual propaganda and these other politically correct, post-modern views."
Dobson's broadcast reaches 200 million people daily in more than 100 countries with his "Focus on the Family" program. Dobson's guest for the March 28 program was former U.S. presidential candidate and talk show host Patrick Buchanan, who agreed with Dobson.
Focus on the Family last year singled out 10 legislative bills the organization claimed would "require teachers to tell children that homosexuality is normal and that anybody who objects is hateful."
California's department of education has denied using any pro-homosexual curriculum, according to a Baptist Press news report.
Rather than pulling students out of public schools, parents can have a say in what curriculum is used by applying to be a reviewer. The state board chooses reviewers based on an applicant's professional qualifications and commitment to the review process, said Tom Adams, a California department of education administrator.
"The curriculum commission also has to have two public hearings on instructional materials, so anybody can come in there" and speak their mind, Adams said.
