VATICAN CITY -- An American-Vatican commission has completed revisions to the U.S. bishops' discipline policy for priests who sexually abuse children, according to The Associated Press.
All U.S. bishops will meet in Washington, D.C., Nov. 11-14 to review the changes. The document will then be sent to the Vatican for final approval.
The Vatican has not released details on any changes. The eight-member commission was formed after the Vatican claimed the original policy conflicted with church law. Church officials and U.S. church law experts had expressed concern that the policy violated priests' rights, according to the AP.
U.S. bishops adopted the original policy in June after hundreds of abuse claims were revealed. The plan called for removing a priest from his ministry -- and in some cases from the priesthood -- after a credible allegation was made.
