IRVING, Texas -- Evangelist Billy Graham broke attendance records at Texas Stadium during the last two nights of his Oct. 17-20 Metroplex Mission, according to the Baptist Press.
Mission organizers were more impressed with another number, though. More than 11,000 decisions for Christ were made during the crusade. More than 1,000 area churches that helped sponsor the mission will follow up with the converts.
Nearly 255,000 people attended the mission meetings in Irving, Texas.
"That's a very good response for a mission that was held in the Bible belt where you have a lot of church attendees," said Beth Ellis, a spokesperson for the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association.
Many have assumed the Texas crusade would be Graham's last. But the 83-year-old stopped short of declaring it so.
"They say it very hopefully, some of them," Graham told the audience. "I say I don't know. That's in God's hands. I never want to say never because we don't know."
