MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. -- Christian apologist Cliffe Knechtle will take on Michael Newdow, the atheist who sued to remove "under God" from the Pledge of Allegiance, in a live debate broadcast Dec. 8 by the Church Communication Network (CCN).
"The Great Debate: Atheism vs. Christianity" will take place at Rolling Hills Church near Sacramento, Calif. The broadcast is free for churches with compatible Dish Network satellite equipment, according to a CCN news release.
Lee Strobel, author of The Case for Christ, and Mark Mittelberg, author of Becoming a Contagious Christian, will host the debate. Strobel said local churches can use the broadcast as an outreach tool.
"We did a similar debate in Chicago 10 years ago," Strobel said. "The results were electrifying. I believe skeptics and Christians alike will flock to see this intellectual shoot-out to find out whether Christianity will emerge as being credible."
Churches can sign up for the broadcast online or by calling (800) 321-6781.
