OCEAN GROVE, N.J. -- Two United Methodist youth leadership teams are challenging the church to do better in its ministries with their age group.
The Shared Mission Focus on Young People and the United Methodist Student Movement claim young people often feel disconnected from the church after graduating from high school or college.
"We're not just saying ââ¬Ëdo something,' we're providing ideas to make it happen," said Jay Williams, co-leader of the mission focus team and a student at Harvard University.
In a joint meeting in September, the groups reviewed a proposal to coordinate youth and young adult ministries through a single division of the Church, according to the United Methodist News Service.
Among the groups' plans is an interactive Web site that would help United Methodist youth worldwide connect.
The groups will meet again in February to draft legislation it will take to the 2004 General Conference, the denomination's top lawmaking body.
