ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- A 14-year-old boy who said he was possessed by demons and seeking help in a church was shot to death by police after pointing a BB gun at officers, according to The Associated Press.
Dominic Montoya went to Taylor Ranch Baptist Church in Albuquerque, N.M., Sept. 5 asking for prayer, said minister of education Cindy Harrison.
Police were called after the choir director's wife, who was praying with Montoya, noticed the boy had a gun. Montoya pointed a BB gun at police when they arrived and was shot twice in the abdomen, according to AP.
"He said he had been having some struggles all the way up through town and that he was possessed by demons and wanted prayer and help," Harrison said. "He looked very troubled."
Albuquerque police said Montoya had threatened his mother, neighbors and church members with the BB gun earlier that day. The officers were placed on paid leave for three days while the police department investigates the case.
