NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Churches are encouraging their members to hand out more than candy to trick-or-treaters this Halloween, according to the American Tract Society (ATS).
"When, but Halloween, do we have more folks coming up to our doors," ATS president Dan Southern said. "All we have to do is answer them with more than they are asking -- a gospel tract and a candy treat."
ATS' "Halloween Rescue Kit" includes enough tracts, individually wrapped candy, stickers and clear sealable bags for 31 children, according to a company news release. Single tracts called "Separating Halloween Fact from Folklore" and "Reaching Kids on Halloween" are included in each kit. The kits are $9.99 each and can be ordered online.
Dallas-area Prestonwood Baptist Church plans to use the tracts during its Halloween night festival. The evangelism outreach event draws more than 20,000 children and parents each year, children's leader Diana Pendley said.
"We use tracts because they are short and easy to read and share the gospel message effectively," Pendley said. "They go home with people and speak to them in a voice that reaches beyond our voices in the quiet times when they need to hear the message most."
