LOS ALMITOS, Calif. -- A thriving California church has won the latest round in its fight to stop city officials from forcing the sale of land the church wants for a multi-million dollar worship and family center.
According to Charisma News Service, a federal judge granted a temporary injunction on Aug. 6, stopping the city of Cypress from using its right of eminent domain to claim 18 acres of land from Cottonwood Christian Center in Los Alamitos. The city wants the land for a commercial development that would bring in badly needed tax dollars.
Quoted in the Orange County Register, U.S. District Judge David O. Carter said the city's actions seemed to discriminate against the church and were like "using a sledgehammer to kill an ant."
A final ruling on the case is expected in March.
