VENTURA, Calif. -- Many pastors who consider themselves effective leaders actually don't belong in a leadership role, according to public opinion analyst George Barna.
Barna, whose Barna Research Group tracks Christian attitudes, opinions and trends, has developed a diagnostic tool based on his leadership research. The Christian Leader Profile will help pastors determine how they can be most effective in their ministries, according to a news release.
The online survey consists of 177 questions relating to a person's calling, character, skills and talents, and leadership aptitudes. The cost is $15 through Dec. 31; Barna did not indicate what the survey would cost after that date. Individuals receive a report based on their responses via e-mail.
"This research does not criticize the heart or ministry of pastors, it simply affirms that they will have their most positive effect through the exercise of other gifts and offices," Barna said. "Pastors are good people, well-educated and called to ministry, but perhaps not to the ministry of leadership."
