SAN CLEMENTE, Calif. -- The "Jesus" film, translated into 743 languages and shown in every country, has been seen by more than 5 billion people, according to the Baptist Press.
There’s still more to do, though, said Paul Eshleman, director of the Jesus Film Project, a ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ International.
"We fully realize that while some may have viewed the Jesus film more than once, others still have not had the opportunity," Eshleman said. "Or, they have not yet seen it in a language version that communicates clearly to them."
The Jesus Film Project is supported by denominations and mission agencies that show the film to groups that often have never heard the gospel. The film was released in 1979 at a cost of $6 million, funded primarily by a businessman and supporter of Campus Crusade. More than 500 scholars and leaders from a variety of Christian and secular organizations spent five years researching how to best represent a biblically accurate film about Christ’s life.
