NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The New Interpreter's Bible, intended for use by pastors and teachers, will be released in July. The 12-year project by Abingdon Press includes commentaries on each book of the Bible, according to the United Methodist News Service (UMNS).
The 12-volume set will be available in the New Revised Standard Version or the New International Version for $500 at Christian bookstores and Abingdon Press.
Each of the biblical books is introduced by an article about that particular book and its setting. Articles on different biblical interpretations and varied types of writing also are included. Commentary and reflections on the scriptures appear in each section, according to UMNS.
"It is a whole shelf full of the best scholarly resource we could gather about the biblical text, combined with discussions dealing with ways that the text can be viewed or applied in our contemporary settings," said Harriett Olson, an executive with the United Methodist Publishing House, which oversaw the project.
