Associated Press: The Connecticut Conference of the United Church of Christ filed a lawsuit Jan.11 against the state's Board of Pardons and Parole in another attempt to stop serial killer Michael Ross' scheduled execution later this month. The conference's legal arm, known as the Missionary Society of Connecticut, wants the Board of Pardons and Parole to hold a hearing to consider commuting Ross' death sentence to life in prison.
Gregory Everett, chairman of the Board of Pardons and Parole, said the church's legal society does not have legal standing to advocate on Ross' behalf, and referred to a recent signed affidavit from Ross stating that he does not want to pursue further appeals or clemency proceedings.
