San Luis Obispo Tribune: Members of a United Methodist Church in San Luis Obispo, Calif., got an early Christmas present from the city.

The city's Architectural Review Commission approved the reconstruction plan of its main structure and sanctuary, which burned to the ground on Easter Sunday 2001.

Groundbreaking on the new structure is tentatively set for February. Church leaders hope to welcome parishioners into a new sanctuary by spring 2006.

The fire, which was ruled as arson, caused more than $1 million in damage.

For three years, worship services have been in a smaller fellowship hall converted into a temporary sanctuary.
