The Christian Post: The humanitarian and refugee assistance agency Church World Service supports the decision for an impartial investigation by the Department of Homeland Security's Inspector General into the death of an 81-year-old Haitian pastor who died in DHS custody while seeking asylum in the United States.
It was in October that Rev. Joseph Dantica fled to the United States, seeking asylum after gangs ransacked his Port-au-Prince church and threatened to kill him.
Prior to his exodus, Dantica had lived in Haiti's Bel Air region for decades, founding a small complex of buildings that included the Church of the Redeemer, a neighboring school, a computer literacy program that used donated computers and a small apartment.
According to CWS, Dantica's troubles in Haiti began when United Nations troops used the church he founded to stage an attack on a gang. Threatened with gang retribution for the UN attack, Dantica and his son fled for safety to the United States.
