Valley News Dispatch: The Faith Community Baptist Church of Allegheny Township, Pa., is in the midst of raising money to refurbish an old elementary school building as their first permanent church building. Gifts of $415,000 along with $100,000 raised so far by the 40 families of the new church will begin to pay for extensive renovations estimated to cost about $1.7 million.
The building sat vacant for six years. The roof leaks. The plaster is damaged. The boilers are frozen and cracked. So, on a recent Saturday, 40 church members worked to clear out the building and get it ready for plastering.
The church is putting a new pitched roof over part of the building, and members are planning to raise a new steeple in a month. They hope to at least be able to use classrooms and worship there by the end of December ââ¬â if heating can be installed by then.
