• Catholic diocese recruits priests through TV spots

COVINGTON, Ky. - The Catholic Diocese of Covington is relying on a simple message to recruit priests. Since the Catholic Vocations Awareness Week in mid-January, the Diocese has been running black-and-white TV commercials on selected northern Kentucky cable channels. The ads - which contain only text, no sound - invite men ages 18-44 to consider the priesthood.

Two to three men a week are calling in response to the ads, some of which are airing on ESPN and Comedy Central, said Father John J. Sterling, director of the diocesan Vocations Council. Prior to the commercials, Sterling said he might only receive one call a month.
