Kirbyjon Caldwell, others seek to clarify faith of Bush and Kerry

San Francisco Chronicle: Rev. Kirbyjon Caldwell, a Houston pastor said to be one of Bush's closest spiritual advisers, spoke to the Religion Newswriters Association during a panel discussion Sept. 11, to clarify President Bush's faith as more evangelical and ecumenical than fundamental.

Caldwell said Bush does not believe that God told him to run for president or that he would win. Neither does he believe God told him to drop any bombs anywhere in the world.

The panel also addressed the faith of Bush's opponent, Sen. John Kerry.
