Dallas Business Journal: GRAPEVINE, Texas -- A North Texas mega-church is opening three satellite locations to relieve a space crunch and help it attract new members. Close to 20,000 people now attend five weekly services at Grapevine-based Fellowship Church, whose main worship center seats 4,000. Over the next year, Fellowship will lease about 250,000 square feet of industrial space in Plano, downtown Dallas and Tarrant County to serve its burgeoning base.
Ed Young, the church's 43-year-old senior pastor, said branching out seemed a better option than expanding at its 140-acre campus along State Highway 121.
"We thought about building a 10,000-seat worship center, but that would take a monstrous amount of money and it would start to feel like you're in American Airlines Center," he said. "We decided we could reach more people and save a huge amount of money by going to where the people are and doing smaller venues instead."
