MARIETTA, Ga. -- Some parents in Marietta, Ga., are protesting suggestive sermon titles on a local church's signboard, according to The Associated Press.
The topic advertised for Sunday, Sept. 29, at Johnson Ferry Baptist Church was "Tough Love in Dealing with Raunchy Sex." Another recent title, "Mixing Jesus with Sex in the City," referred to the hit HBO television series.
The Rev. Bryant Wright made no apologies for the sermon titles, saying they went along with his series on tough contemporary issues.
"I hope every title creates interest in the community," Wright said.
Church receptionists told the AP they've received about 30 complaints, mostly from nonmembers. Nearly 6,000 people attend the church's weekly worship services.
Stacy Walker, a Roman Catholic mother of three, said "they're using sex to sell God." Her 8-year-old daughter sent the church an e-mail complaining, "I do not like it. Jesus maybe is confused, too."
