FORT WORTH, Texasââ¬âAn American held hostage for nearly a month in Iraq talked about his experiences to church members in North Texas last weekend, according to NBC5i.com.
Thomas Hamill was driving a truck for KBR, a subsidiary of Halliburton Corp., when his convoy was ambushed April 9. Hamill was taken hostage by Iraqi insurgents.
Hamill attended Sunday service at the Church of God in Mesquite and recalled his experiences for the congregation. Hamill's in-laws live in nearby Garland.
According to the report, Hamill told the crowd about his daring escape and a moment when he feared he would not survive the kidnapping.
"The Iraqi that wound up with the weapon walked me out back and I said 'Lord, this is probably gonna be the end.'"
Hamill was shot when he was kidnapped but said he was surprised how well his captors took care of him. Hamill said his captors bandaged his arm and gave him antibiotic shots every day.
Now safely home, Hamill said he prays for the people of Iraq and for an end to the violence. "I do know there are good people over there ... and you can't fault these people for a religion. They are good people," said Hamill.
Hamill said he will return to Iraq if given an opportunity.
