SUGAR LAND, Texas--Soaring gas prices became an opportunity for ministry for First Baptist Sugar Land. News 24 Houston reported that as gas prices soared to an all time high in Texas, reaching an average of $1.93 per gallon, the church offset the cost of gas by giving 25 cents back for every gallon of gas pumped at the local Wal-mart.
The church did the same thing last Christmas as a way to give back to the community.
"As we approached Memorial Day, we saw the gas prices were getting outrageous and we said ââ¬ËYou know what, it is time to do that again,'" said First Baptist Sugar Land Pastor Scott Rambo.
"We really don't want anything in return," he said. "We just wanted to find a way to tangibly give back to the community."
Long lines at the pumps were indicators that drivers were taking advantage of First Baptist Sugar Land's 25-cent per gallon discount for the holiday weekend.
First Baptist Sugar Land also offered the 25-cent savings per gallon at a second gas station in the area.
