CAROL STREAM, Ill.--Christianity Today announced the 2004 Book Awards for 22 titles that have brought “understanding to people, events, and ideas that shape evangelical life, thought, and mission,” according to the magazine.

They reportedly received 349 nominations from 45 publishers. Christianity Today staff selected the top five books in each category and then judges determined the winners.

Among the books recognized were Dan Kimball's book, “The Emerging Church: Vintage Christianity for New Generations” (Zondervan). The judges commented that Kimball, “thinks biblically about the nature of authentic church life -- including worship, evangelism, and discipleship -- and helps us to understand the church of the next generation.”

Also recognized was Ted Yamamori and Kenneth A Eldred's book, “On Kingdom Business: Transforming Missions Through Entrepreneurial Strategies” (Crossway).

Judges commented, “This book offers prescient insight into what 21st century Christianity will require to claim for Christ the world's most resistant populations. The case studies and analytical pieces provide strategic approaches to building and strengthening the church in restricted-access countries.”

Other books honored were: “Going Public with Your Faith: Becoming a Spiritual Influence at Work,” by William Carr Peel and Walt Larimore (Zondervan); “My God and I,” by Lewis B. Smedes (Eerdmans); “The Resurrection of the Son of God,” by N.T. Wright (Fortress Press); “Doubts about Darwin: A History of Intelligent Design,” by Thomas Woodward (Baker); “A Bearer of Divine Revelation,” by Lawrence Dorr (Eerdmans); “Jonathan Edwards: A Life,” by George M. Marsden (Yale University Press); “Searching For Home: Spirituality for Restless Souls,” by M. Craig Barnes (Baker/Brazos); and “Kingdom Ethics: Following Jesus in Contemporary Context,” by Glen H. Stassen and David P. Gushee (InterVarsity Press).
