KANSAS CITY--The Billy Graham Crusade scheduled for June 17-20 in Kansas City may be postponed, according to Baptist Press.
Graham fell May 14. He had been recovering from a partial hip replacement and had to have further surgery for a fractured pelvis.
The general committee for The Heart of America event is exploring another date because the 85-year-old evangelist has been hospitalized.
“The committee wants to pursue every option, including postponement,†said Larry Ross, spokesperson for the crusade.
“Billy Graham has expressed his burden and passion for coming to Kansas City, and we want to reiterate our commitment to him by giving him time to get well,†said Richard Hastings, chairman of the Heart of America Billy Graham Crusade general committee.
“We very much want him to come and preach ... even if he has to sit in a chair.â€
The Kansas City crusade has already drawn the support of 750 churches representing 53 denominations, according to Hastings.
Mike Whitehead, legal counsel for the crusade committee, said a postponement would mean more time for prayer and an opportunity for more churches to participate.
Graham also is scheduled to preach a crusade at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif., July 29-Aug. 1.
