LOUISVILLE, Ky.--What began as a comment about the Bible turned into airplane evangelism for Ed Stucky, according to Baptist Press.

The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary student planned to read Bible commentaries and prepare for a sermon during his recent flight from Orlando, Fla., to Louisville, Ky. But when a fellow passenger remarked that she was taking a New Testament class in college, Stucky initiated a conversation that ended in telling half of the passengers about salvation in Christ.

"We talked a little about the Bible, and I [said] that I not only believed that the Bible was great literature but that it was the inerrant Word of God," Stucky told Baptist Press. "Everything in it was written for God to reveal Himself to us, and we should have more than just a casual interest in it because it holds answers to all of life's problems and questions."

More people began listening to Stucky and before the flight landed he found himself standing in the aisle and sharing the Gospel with more than 70 passengers.

"Everybody seemed to be really interested in what I was saying," Stucky said.

When a woman one row behind him asked, "Wasn't Jesus just a good teacher? Aren't there many ways to God?" Stucky said he seized the moment.

"It was the perfect opportunity," Stucky said. "I said, ‘Jesus said that He was the Way, the Truth and the Life and no one comes to the Father except through Him. So He couldn't have just been a good teacher.'"

One passenger asked what Stucky thought about Mel Gibson's "The Passion of the Christ" movie.

"I said, ‘I haven't seen it myself,'" Stucky said. "I've heard a lot about it, and I think it reinforces the fact that America is searching for something real.

Stucky said the first woman he spoke with said she would be going to church the following Sunday.

He said he was surprised that his evangelism efforts were not stopped. An American Airlines pilot was reprimanded recently for similar efforts in evangelism during a flight from Los Angeles to New York. Although the pilots tactics were notably different and in fact caused a panic among passengers rather than sparking any interest, according to CNN.

Stucky said his opportunity to evangelize came by the grace of God. He said the experience reminded him that people are looking for answers and willing to listen.

"We can speak with confidence and know that people are searching," he said.
