CHATSWORTH, Calif. -- Families interested in filtering foul language can now do so through Fisher's DVD player and home theater system, according to a company news release.
The Fisher DVD-SL30 single-disc DVD player uses TVGuardian-Foul Language Filter technology to eliminate offensive words. The DVD player, expected to sell for $150, is available throughout the United States in Discovery Channel Stores and Family Christian Stores. The Fisher DCS-TS750 slim-style DVD home theater system, at $250, is available at Costco stores nationwide.
TVGuardian previously has been available only as a stand-alone set-top box. The technology detects profanity and other offensive phrases, muting the audio and modifying the incoming closed captioned signal. A suitable word is substituted when appropriate, according to the release.
Users can choose between two filter modes. Strict Mode filters out exclamatory uses of the name of God, Jesus and Christ. Moderate Mode allows those words to be heard. The technology is expected to filter out more than 95 percent of foul language from DVD movies, according to the release.
