KUMASI, Ghana--Corruption and immoral leaders are hindering church work, Dr. Samuel Brefo-Adubofour, vice principal of Christian Service College in Kumasi, told the GNA.
He said donor agencies and individuals outside Ghana are beginning to doubt the integrity of Ghanaian church leaders.
"The outside help that we need to push the work of God forward may not come if we do not commit ourselves to probity and accountability," Brefo-Adubofour said during a seminar for Anglican clegy.
"In Ghana, if the leader does not move, the people don't move. It is as if the people's progress is dependent on the leader's vision and action only," he said.
He called for vision, goals, discipline and determination to work. He also pointed out the need to clarify the shared vision of the church.
He called on Christian leaders to put their personal comfort, preferences and interests aside. "Material rewards should not be a driving force behind our service as leaders," he said.
The Right Reverend Daniel Yinkah-Sarfo, Anglican Bishop of Kumasi, also spoke. He urged participants to build a vibrant, mission-oriented, self-supporting and self-propagating diocese. He said he was prepared to lead by serving to achieve the goals of the diocese.
