JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- As Jacksonville plans for the 2005 Super Bowl it will host, more than 100 church leaders and Christian business owners plan to reach out to the thousands of visitors.
Among First Coast Christian Outreach's plan to welcome visitors and promote Christianity, according to the Times-Union, are:
- Putting brochures in hotel rooms listing area church services
- Offering water and prayer from tents near the stadium
- Hosting worship services aboard the cruise ships that will provide lodging for visitors
- Offering free game day baby-sitting on ships
- Publishing a daily newspaper containing Christian testimonies
- Recruiting Christian NFL owners and athletes to speak in area churches, schools and at business lunches
- Organizing Christian concerts
The group is discussing fund-raising opportunities to pay for the outreach, said the Rev. Peter Church, who is leading the effort.
Mike Weinstein, president of the city's Super Bowl Host Committee, said he welcomes the efforts.
"It's not about getting into people's faces," Weinstein told the Times-Union. "We haven't heard any concerns relating to any groups overstepping normal bounds and behavior."
