ATLANTA--The New Hope United Methodist Congregation is concerned about safety, but they are more concerned about praying for a lost soul.
Last Sunday, the 200-member congregation prayed for whoever shot holes into the Lawrenceville church.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that a confession may be the only way police will solve the case as there are no suspects and no witnesses to the shooting.
Rev. Wayne Reed said he found two bullet holes in buildings at the church, and after a church service he noticed a spent bullet casing outside the parsonage where he and his wife live.
"My primary concern was for the safety of my wife and my congregation," Reed said. "We are also concerned for someone that is so troubled that they would do this to a church."
Reed said a .40-caliber bullet had taken a quarter-size chunk out of a door of the three-bedroom parsonage.
Later, Reed also found a bullet had pierced the side wall of the church, and the hole could be seen from inside the sanctuary.
"While we forgive the person, I just can't believe someone would do this to a church," Reed said.
"We don't know if someone was driving by aimlessly shooting out of their window or if someone was targeting the church."
