HARRISBURG, Pa. -- The National Council of Churches (NCC) is encouraging Christian congregations to host interfaith open houses to mark the anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, according to the United Methodist News Service.
The "Open Doors: Interfaith Hospitality Project" was developed by NCC and U.S. Muslim organizations. The project urges local churches and Muslims to work together in educating church members about different faiths.
Last fall, NCC helped hundreds of Islamic centers and mosques through a media campaign to discourage discrimination against American Muslims.
This latest project is a reminder for Christians to be in prayer about interfaith issues following the Sept. 11 attacks, United Methodist Bishop Melvin Talbert said. Talbert is an NCC executive board member.
Promotion materials, developed by NCC, are available through the organization's Web site.
