ATLANTA--As world leaders gather with President Bush for the G8 Summit June 8-10 in Sea Island, Ga., pastors, ministry leaders and other Christians will also gather to pray.
According to a press release, dozens of national and international prayer networks have been organized involving tens of thousands of intercessors mobilized to pray specifically for the attending G8 leaders, the decisions they will make, and for peace throughout the world.
Planning for the G8 Prayer Initiative began last year under the leadership of Jacquie Tyre, state coordinator for the Georgia Strategic Prayer Network.
"God is calling his church to take her place within a global arena," Tyre said. "The mission of the Body of Christ remains to lift up and pray for all in authority across denominational, racial and social lines."
Strong international involvement came from the Institute for Global Affairs, a Christian organization based in the United Kingdom and Canada.
A full day of global worship celebrations is scheduled for Saturday, June 5, preceding the Sea Island summit. As G8 Summit leaders are convening on June 8-10, Christians and church leaders from around the world will attend worship and prayer summits running simultaneously in Atlanta, Brunswick (the county seat for Sea Island) and Savannah.
Other cities around the state and nation are invited to organize worship and prayer efforts in their communities. More information on the G8 Prayer Initiative is available at www.g8prayer.org or www.ifgaonline.com.
