TOPEKA, Kan.--Mel Gibson's "The Passion of The Christ" is being touted as a biblically accurate portrayal of the last days of Jesus Christ. So although the film has yet to open, showings have already sold out to Christians in some theaters around the country.
In Topeka, according to KSNT-TV, some screenings were full as of last week. Rob Kirkpatrick with Northland Christian Church bought all the tickets for two shows on opening weekend.
"We hope we're going to fill these seats. That's our goal: to pack the theater out," he said.
Kirkpatrick said encouraging church members to see the Passion is an exception to other ââ¬ËR' rated films.
"Most of the American citizens are appalled at the kinds of things we see in the media and in the movies. Here's a movie we're asking Christians to support and take an active part in, again, because we believe in the educational and historicity of it."
David Manner with Covenant Baptist Church said his church bought all the tickets to a showing. He is inviting church members and their friends to the movie.
"From everything that I've heard and read, it stays very true to the scripture, the original text, so we feel because of that it'll be a more meaningful experience."
While some evangelicals are purchasing tickets to share the Gospel through the film, others are buying tickets to help the film succeed at the box office and thereby send a message to Hollywood to encourage more films of a Christian nature.
