NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A debate involving the gender-neutral Today's New International Version (TNIV) Bible translation will air May 21 on the Internet, according to the Baptist Press.
The debate between Mark Strauss, one of the TNIV's endorsers, and Wayne Grudem, who has challenged the translation, begins at 7:30 p.m. Pacific time in Concordia University's gymnasium in the Los Angeles area.
The debate's webcast can be accessed at faithandvalues.com. Audio will be available at oneplace.com following the debate.
The TNIV, unveiled Jan. 28 by the International Bible Society and Zondervan publishing, is a revision of the 1984 New International Version (NIV) Bible translation.
Strauss is associate professor of New Testament at Bethel Theological Seminary-West Campus in San Diego. He is author of "Distorting Scripture? The Challenge of Bible Translation and Gender Accuracy," published in 1998 by InterVarsity Press.
Grudem is a Bible and theology research professor at Phoneix Seminary. He co-authored "The Gender-Neutral Bible Controversy," published in 2000 by Broadman & Holman.
