MELBOURNE, Fla.ââ¬âMembers of Brevard County Episcopal Church voted to leave their denomination and join Anglican Mission in America.
According to The Associated Press the Mission broke from the Episcopal Church, USA in 2000 citing its liberal theology and practices, such as last summer's confirmation of the Rev. Gene Robinson as bishop of New Hampshire. Robinson is openly homosexual.
The Anglican Communion of Rwanda is leading the breakaway trend for conservative churches in the U.S. branch of the Episcopal Church. The Mission group is not recognized by the Archbishop of Canterbury, leader of the worldwide Anglican Communion, but it claims 63 churches and 12,000 to 15,000 members.
Most Anglican leaders around the world side with the Mission group and insist on traditional Christian teaching that opposes homosexuality.
